Boyd Mountain Tree Farm Opening this Weekend!

November 16, 2009

It is here!  Opening weekend for the Choose n’ Cut farm.  November 20-December 20; Open Daily 9-5.  Easy access from still open Exit 20 West off I-40.  We are located just minutes from Waynesville, Maggie Valley, Clyde, Canton, Lake Junaluska & Asheville.

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas around the farm.  The tent went up over the weekend and final preparations are being done this week to be ready for opening day.  The family is full of excitement.  I decorated our home over the weekend except for the fresh garlands, wreaths & trees.  It helped put me in the mood for opening weekend.

We are anxious to see all of you return and meet many new faces.  It is such a great family tradition to have.  Coming to the Christmas Tree Farm and cutting your own tree, running through the fields, enjoying refreshments, mingling with the families.  You will leave with lasting memories.

See you in just a few days.

Things are in Full Swing at Christmas Tree Farm

November 9, 2009

The first wholesale order made it out successful last Friday.  Stone Mountain Park will be decked out for the holidays with are quality Fraser Firs.  The guys are busy getting ready for the next several orders that will be going out in the coming days.  All orders will be out and on a corner near you by Thanksgiving.

David is still busy in the field tagging trees for the orders and for the Choose n’ Cut season.  Let’s hope the weather holds.  Rain is expected in the next couple of days from the hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.

We are keeping the sign companies busy in town also.   We are having several new directional signs printed since many of you will be coming from different directions this year with the closure of part of I-40 due to the rock slide.  Do, remember you still can get to Exit 20 West Bound.   The signs will be placed around Clyde, Lake Junaluska, Waynesville & Canton to help.

The tent should be arriving this week so that we may beginning setting it up for the Choose N’ Cut season.  We will be offering free refreshments & coloring books for the kids.  Wreaths, Garland, Sweatshirts, & Boyd Mountain Tree Farm ornaments will be available for sale.  We will keep the tent nice a cozy with heaters.

Remember to check out our website www.BoydMountainTreeFarm.com for more details and we will see you soon.

First Wholesale Order Almost Ready to Go Out

November 4, 2009

The guys started cutting the first wholesale order yesterday.  You could hear the chain saws humming and the guys whistling.  They will have the order all ready to go including the cutting, baling, & drilling for Friday’s delivery date.   Several other orders will be filled in the next few weeks.

For us it means just around the corner the tent will be up and the Choose n’ Cut operation is only days away.  Remember not to let the rock slide on I-40 detour your family tradition.  We have plenty of alternate routes posted on our website at www.BoydMountainTreeFarm.com .  We will open November 20th-December 20th; Daily 9-5.

We are excited that will be seeing you soon!

Awoke to traces of Snow!

October 18, 2009

The high mountains & the eaves of our home were kissed by frost & snow this morning.  Perfect weather at the Christmas Tree Farm.  The cold really puts us in the mood for the holidays.  Things are getting busier around the farm.  David has had the equipment out and getting it tuned and ready to go.  The balers are ready to bale up your choose n’ cut tree for the ride home.  The first wholesale order is schedule for the first of November.

We have made our plans to be at the Southern Christmas Show in Charlotte in November.  We are proud to have on display two of our Fraser Firs.  The show begins November 10th and runs through the 22nd.  We will be manning the booth the 18th & 19th.  We hope to see you there.

Stay warm where ever you may be.

Fall is Here!

October 8, 2009

The weather is delightful!  The mornings and evenings are cool and the afternoons are warm and sunny.  The leaves are beginning to change ever so slightly.  It is a great time to be out and about on the Christmas Tree Farm.  Betsy & Danny Boyd have all their lovely fall decorations out on the farm.  David, Billie & Bryce have their home all decorated with fall leaves & pumpkins.  Billie is getting excited about carving pumpkins and making Halloween cookies.

David will begin next week in the fields tagging the Christmas Trees for wholesale and Choose n’ Cut.  Our first wholesale order goes out at the very first of next month.  Everyone else is busy getting prepared for the Choose n’ Cut season.  Many things have to be in order so that we are ready for you and your family.

We can’t wait to be a part of your family memories this year!

Weather

September 26, 2009

The weather is definitely on everyone’s mind in the southeast.  We have had way more than our fair share.  We have been fortunate not to have some of the flooding and damage that many of our neighboring counties & states have been having.  The trees are loving it though!  You will most certainly see this year with the amount of rain we have had very lush & green trees.

Things are picking up for our wholesale orders and many behind the scene activities are going on for our Choose n’ Cut season.  It always seems like there is plenty of time to get ready then all of sudden it is here.  We are getting very excited about seeing everyone again this year and many new faces.  Remember to put on your calendars that we are open from November 20th to December 20th daily 9-5.

Shearing for our Christmas Trees

September 7, 2009

Can you believe that the Christmas season is just around the corner?  Us either, however we are getting very excited about this year’s season.  The workers have already been in the field getting the trees ready for our wholesale & choose-n-cut season.

To assure our customers in the wholesale & choose-n-cut the best quailty & prefect shape we shear our trees this time of year.  Shearing is done to regulate and direct the growth of individual trees.  The object is to develp a symmetrical shape and to increase foliage density, which results in a fuller tree with uniform foliage.

There are several types of tools we use to shear our Fraser Fir Christmas trees.  These include hand clippers and shearing knives.  We keep our equipment in tip top shape to protect the quality of our trees and our staff.  It is quite interesting to watch the staff in the fields at work shearing.  They take their time and are very precise.  You never want to sneak up on them since they have sharp objects in hand:)

We do this each fall to ensure that you as our customers and family have the prefect tree.  We are always available at the farm if you would like to come by and see these process for yourself.
